media update: January
This is a paltry update because Persona 3 Reload has eaten my life, so we've fallen behind on our movie watching. As far as the books, no idea! I deleted the match 3 games off my phone so I thought I'd get more reading done, but apparently not. I'm about to get one of those time management consultants my former workplace used to hire and see where the hell my time goes. Spoiler alert: probably Reddit.
Asterisks denote something I particularly enjoyed or found especially worthy of my time; double asterisks are reserved for the creme de la creme. As always, your mileage may vary.
FICTION
1. Crux by Gabriel Tallent: Dan and Tamma are lifelong friends who dream of being professional rock climbers, but life gets in the way.
NONFICTION
Nothing this month.
MANGA/GRAPHIC NOVELS
1. Do You Really Only Want a Meal? vols. 1-2 by Yasu Tadano
MOVIES
1. CODA*: As the only hearing member of a deaf family, Ruby has had to put her own needs aside to help with translating and working on their boat, but she really wants to be a singer. I don't know that it should have necessarily won the best picture Oscar (especially since Don't Look Up was also nominated that year), but it was still enjoyable and touching.
2. Black Phone 2: Several years after the events of the first movie, siblings Finn and Gwen head to a winter camp in hopes of finding out the truth behind the Grabber. Some excellent creepy scenes, but it unraveled in the last 20 minutes.
3. Roofman: A thief on the run (Channing Tatum) hides inside a Toys R Us. Based on a true story, it's fun but overstays its welcome.
